What to do if the clearance of RX61-1.86-4 reducer is too large due to gear wear

The RX61-1.86-4 gearbox has excessive meshing clearance due to gear wear, which can cause problems such as operating noise, increased vibration, and decreased transmission efficiency. Targeted measures need to be taken according to the degree of wear, with the core being to restore gear meshing accuracy and avoid the expansion of faults. The specific solutions are as follows:
1、 First evaluate the degree of wear and the range of clearance exceeding the standard

Measure the meshing clearance

Fix the driving wheel, press the dial gauge against the driven wheel tooth surface, gently pry the driven wheel, and record the amount of needle swing (i.e. side clearance). Refer to the standard for this model of gearbox:

The side clearance of a new machine is usually 0.1~0.2mm (depending on the module);

If the clearance after wear exceeds twice the standard of the new machine (such as>0.4mm), or if there is obvious damage to the tooth surface, it needs to be treated with special attention.

Check the condition of the tooth surface

Mild wear: The tooth surface is uniformly worn thin, without obvious pitting/chipping, only the clearance exceeds the standard;

Severe wear: Deep pitting (pits>0.2mm) on the tooth surface, cracked tooth edges, and severe local thinning of tooth thickness (unilateral wear>0.5mm).

2、 Case by case handling: from repair to replacement
1. Mild wear (slightly excessive clearance, basically intact tooth surface): Try adjusting compensation
If the gear wear is uniform and there are no hard injuries, it can be passed through
Axial adjustment of gear position
Reduce the meshing clearance (only applicable to structures with axial adjustment allowance), the steps are as follows:

Disassemble the end caps: Loosen the bearing end caps on both ends of the gear shaft and remove the adjusting shims (record the original thickness).

Unilateral fine adjustment: According to the excessive clearance, reduce the gasket at the bearing end cover of the driving wheel or driven wheel (for every 0.05mm reduction of gasket, the axial clearance can be reduced by about 0.03-0.04mm, which needs to be converted based on the gear helix angle).

Symmetrical tightening: After adjustment, reinstall the end cap, tighten the bolts symmetrically, and measure the side clearance again to ensure it is controlled at 0.15~0.25mm (slightly higher than the new machine standard is allowed, but obvious impact sounds need to be eliminated).

Verification: Conduct a 10 minute no-load test run and listen for a decrease in meshing noise. If there is no "clanging" sound, it is considered effective.

Attention: This method can only compensate for a small range of clearance (≤ 0.15mm), and it is necessary to ensure that the gear still meshes with the full tooth width after axial displacement, in order to avoid increased wear caused by unbalanced load.
