What are the reasons for the abnormal noise of WHS200-50-10 worm gear reducer

The question you raised is crucial. The WHS200-50-10 worm gear reducer has abnormal noise, and the core causes are concentrated in three categories: abnormal lubrication, component wear or damage, and installation deviation. The specific situations can be decomposed into the following categories.
1、 Lubrication system issues
This is one of the most common causes of abnormal noise, as lubrication failure can directly lead to dry friction of metal parts.

Insufficient lubricating oil level: The oil level is below the specified mark, and there is a lack of oil film protection when the worm gear and worm gear mesh, resulting in friction noise.

Inconsistent lubricating oil model: Failure to use the specified type of lubricating oil for the gearbox (such as viscosity mismatch) will result in the formation of an effective lubricating film, exacerbating wear and accompanied by noise.

Deterioration or contamination of lubricating oil: After long-term use, lubricating oil oxidizes and mixes with impurities (such as metal debris and dust), leading to a decrease in lubrication performance and increased wear on the mating surface, resulting in abnormal noise.

2、 Wear or damage to core components
Worm gears, worm gears, and bearings are the transmission core, and their status directly affects the operating noise.

Worm gear wear: After long-term operation, the worm gear tooth surface (usually made of copper material) or worm gear tooth surface may experience wear, pitting, and bonding, resulting in increased meshing clearance and impact noise during transmission.

Bearing damage: The bearings that match the input and output shafts are worn, the raceway is peeled off, or the cage is broken, resulting in a "buzzing" or "clanging" sound, and the noise increases with the increase of speed.

Loose parts: Loose connection keys between worm gear and shaft, worm gear and shaft, or loose fasteners such as bearing end caps and bolts, resulting in relative displacement of parts and vibration and abnormal noise during transmission.

3、 Installation and alignment deviation
Accuracy issues during installation can result in uneven stress during operation, leading to abnormal noise.

Poor alignment of input/output shafts: The shaft centerlines of the reducer, motor, and load equipment are not aligned (with parallel or angular deviations), resulting in additional radial force during transmission, causing abnormal stress on the bearings and mating surfaces, and generating noise.

The base installation is not firm: the reducer base is not fixed or the fixing bolts are loose, causing overall vibration during operation, collision with surrounding components, or unstable self transmission, resulting in abnormal noise.

Improper axial clearance: The axial clearance of the worm gear is adjusted too small, causing parts to get stuck or friction to intensify during operation due to thermal expansion and contraction; If the gap is too large, it will cause meshing impact, and both will cause abnormal noise.

4、 Other special reasons

Overload operation: When the actual load exceeds the rated load of the reducer, the meshing surface of the worm gear is subjected to excessive force, resulting in plastic deformation or severe friction, accompanied by abnormal noise and temperature rise.

Foreign object intrusion: Damage to the sealing components of the gearbox (such as aging oil seals) can cause dust, moisture, or other impurities to enter the interior and get stuck in the mating surfaces or bearings, resulting in abnormal wear and noise.
