How to adjust the input torque of WHX125-50 worm gear reducer

The WHX125-50 worm gear reducer does not have a built-in torque adjustment mechanism. The input torque is jointly determined by the drive motor and the load, and needs to be adjusted through three methods: motor control, transmission matching, and overload protection. The following are directly executable solutions:

1、 Core principle

WHX125-50 is a fixed speed ratio (i=50) circular arc worm gear reducer, with input torque T ₁=output torque T ₂ ÷ 50 ÷ efficiency η (η≈ 0.75~0.85).

The upper limit of input torque is determined by the rated torque of the motor and the allowable input torque of the gearbox, and cannot exceed the rated value.

2、 4 Practical Methods for Adjusting Input Torque

1. Motor control and regulation (most commonly used, can be directly operated on site)

Variable frequency speed regulation (recommended): Use a frequency converter to adjust the motor speed/frequency and synchronously change the output torque.

Reduce frequency → decrease speed → increase output torque → synchronous increase in input torque;

Increase frequency → increase speed → decrease output torque → synchronous decrease input torque.

Current/torque limitation: Set the maximum output current/torque upper limit in the frequency converter or motor driver to limit the peak input torque and prevent overload.

Voltage regulation: Reduce the power supply voltage of the motor and decrease the input torque (suitable for small-scale fine-tuning, with slightly reduced efficiency).

2. Transmission matching adjustment (changing system torque distribution)

Replace the drive motor:

Need for greater input torque: Replace with a motor with higher power and rated torque;

Require smaller input torque: Replace with a motor with lower power and rated torque.

Install torque limiter/safety clutch: Install between the motor and the input shaft of the gearbox, set the slip torque value, and if exceeded, slip to protect the gearbox and motor.

3. Load side adjustment (indirectly changing input torque)

Reduce load: Reduce equipment resistance and workload, resulting in a decrease in input torque.

Optimize the transmission mechanism: clean up stuck and poorly lubricated parts, reduce friction losses, and decrease input torque requirements.

4. Maintenance of the gearbox body (ensuring rated torque output)

Check the axial clearance of the worm: adjust the bearing gland nut to eliminate excessive clearance and avoid torque loss.

Ensure the quantity and quality of lubricating oil: Use N320~N460 worm gear oil, with the oil quantity meeting the standard, to prevent efficiency decline and torque abnormality caused by insufficient lubrication.

Check the engagement of the worm gear: Ensure good contact, no bias or pitting, and avoid additional torque loss.

3、 WHX125-50 Key Parameters

Center distance: 125mm; Speed ratio: i=50; Input speed ≤ 1500r/min.

Allowable input torque: approximately 150-200N · m (according to standard JB2318-79).

Maximum output torque: approximately 7500~10000N · m (50 x input torque x efficiency).
