How to choose a lubricant suitable for RV worm gear reducer

1、 Key points for lubricant selection

1. Type: RV reducer recommends using 0 # or 00 # special lubricating grease, and synthetic lithium based grease (drip point ≥ 150 ℃) should be selected for high temperature environments

2. Parameters:
Viscosity: Choose 220 gear oil for low-speed heavy load and 150 oil for high-speed
Extreme pressure: Contains EP additives (such as molybdenum disulfide) to resist heavy load wear
3. Environmental adaptation:
High temperature (>40 ℃): Choose high viscosity oil (such as N320) or synthetic fat
Low temperature (<-10 ℃): Use low pour point gear oil (such as 68 #)
2、 Selection taboos and precautions (avoid common errors)
(1) Absolutely prohibited lubricants:
Extreme pressure lubricating grease/gear oil containing active sulfur and chlorine (which can corrode copper worm gears and cause tooth surface peeling);
Calcium based lubricating grease (low drip point, poor water resistance, easy to deteriorate);
Ordinary mechanical oil (without anti-wear and anti adhesive additives, unable to meet sliding friction requirements).
(2) Key points for supplementation and replacement:
Lubricating with grease: The filling amount should not be too much (exceeding 1/2 of the chamber will cause mixing heat and grease deterioration). When disassembling the end cap, the old grease should be cleaned to avoid mixing new and old grease;
Oil lubrication: After the first 500 hours of operation, it is necessary to replace the oil with new oil (metal shavings generated during the running in period can contaminate the oil quality), and then replace it according to the recommended cycle. When changing the oil, the oil tank and filter screen need to be cleaned;
Oil level control: If the oil level is too high, it will increase the stirring resistance and cause the oil temperature to rise. If it is too low, the lubrication will be insufficient, and it needs to be added according to the oil level line marked in the equipment manual.
(3) Special scenario adaptation:
Food industry (such as conveying equipment): it is necessary to choose food grade lubricants;
Outdoor or dusty environments: For grease lubrication, choose lubricating grease with good sealing performance, and for oil lubrication, install dust covers and oil filters (filtration accuracy ≤ 20 μ m).
